In early 2021, the Wenzhou Municipal Government endorsed the initiative to launch an international school for children of expatriates in the vicinity in order to meet the growing educational needs of the local international communities. Wenzhou Union International School (WUIS), jointly founded by Wenzhou-Kean University Education Development Foundation and Likeda Holdings, was thus established. Upon approval by the Department of Education of the Zhejiang Provincial Government in July 2021, the School was registered with the Zhejiang Civil Affairs Bureau in August 2021.
As the only international school in the Wenzhou vicinity offering formal foreign curricula at both the primary and secondary levels, WUIS aims to provide quality international education for the children of expatriates, overseas Chinese, and citizens of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. With students and teachers worldwide, the school values international-mindedness as the core of its culture.
In May 2023, Wenzhou Union International School was granted IB (International Baccalaureate) candidate school status, including Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP), becoming a pioneer in practicing IB educational philosophy in the Wenzhou region.
Wenzhou Union International School is a candidate school* for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme/Middle Years Programme and is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.
IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the IB Career-related Certificate (IBCC). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
